There are numerous car rental agencies spread throughout the major cities, airports and tourist destinations within the Philippines offering cars, trucks, buses and even motorbikes. Policies at international agencies vary slightly when compared to their local counterparts. Most international agencies require the leesee to be 25 years of age whereas local companies do not seem to have a minimum age. More documents are usually required by international companies, some even requiring your plane ticket. Almost all rental vehicles come with air conditioning and most offer the options of either a manual or automatic transmission. Generally, as with all car rental companies through-out the world, you will be required to pay a deposit to cover any damages incurred, if any, during the rental of the vehicle. This deposit will be refunded to you once the vehicle has been returned. It is advised to do a personal check of the vehicle before signing a contract to ensure all is in working order. Any problems and/or body damage should be noted before accepting the car. Most car rental companies within the Philippines offer, and encourage you to hire a company driver to drive the vehicle. If one can afford this additional cost, it can be somewhat beneficial to yourself if you are an inexperienced driver or a new visitor to the Philippines. Filipino drivers are less disciplined and skilled compared to their western counterparts and the rules of the road are loosely followed at best so, care should be taken.
